IFUJI for A&S
Oval box #5
SPECIAL
The Oval box #5 (Canterbury), is made in a A&S exclusive material using a deep black walnut wood. This series reproduces the 20th century pattern of the Canterbury community, which is considered the standard model among Shaker Oval boxes. Most parts of the production are done by hand, and the delicate joints, known as swallowtails, are hand-cut by skilled craftsmen. The copper nails used to fasten the swallowtail are made in the U.S.A. using 19th-century machines to produce nails. Vegetable oil based with linseed oil and beeswax wax are used for the paint, to be environmentally safe for the body. The inside of the body is unpainted intentionally so the wood does not lose its properties to adjust to humidity. On the lower part of the back of the box there is a number indicating the size of the box and an "ARTS&SCIENCE” branded stamp. Six different sizes are available, including Oval box #5.
