An A&S special-order sun umbrella by IIDA KASATEN, the custom umbrella workshop led by umbrella maker Yoshihisa Iida. The umbrella features A&S’s original “Cotton linen kasuri stripe washer” fabric, a kasuri stripe design treated with UV processing. The name band is finished with an original ARTS&SCIENCE cat-eye button, and the handle is crafted from maple and features hand-carved Kamakura-bori, creating a comfortable grip that sits naturally in the hand. Lightweight carbon is used for both the ribs and shaft, with everyday use in mind.

【IIDA KASATEN】IIDA KASATEN is a custom umbrella workshop led by umbrella maker Yoshihisa Iida. The workshop creates sun umbrellas, rain umbrellas, and all-weather umbrellas using original textiles designed in-house. Without a permanent storefront, IIDA KASATEN travels across Japan twice a year to hold order-taking and sales events. In addition to umbrellas, the studio also produces fabric and paper items developed from its textile designs. Other activities include crafting umbrellas for film and theater productions, collaborating with creators from other fields, and engaging in a variety of umbrella-related projects.

Carbon fiber, maple

A kasuri stripe fabric woven with dyed and kasuri-dyed medium-count cotton plied yarns arranged at regular intervals in the warp, and medium-count cotton-linen single yarns in the weft. The kasuri yarns are Kyoto hon-kasuri yarns used for kimono fabrics. In finishing, a special washer machine is used to impart fine vertical creases to the fabric. Recreating the nostalgic texture of traditional Japanese textiles to modern standards, it offers a cool appearance and hand feel.

*Since Handle is made of natural wood, there are individual differences in color and grain. Please be aware of this.

*Due to the nature of linen fiber, thick knots or lump of string may appear on the surface of the fabric. Also, linen fibers may be mixed into the fabric, but this is not a defect but a characteristic of natural material.
