Chrysanthemum shaped sake cup (“Gyoku” series) made by glass artist Masao Kozumi. The cup is made using a mold-blown glass technique. The work is inspired by an ancient shape and is made from a milky white glass, called Gyoku glass, which is reminiscent of white porcelain and is expressed in a white color. This chrysanthemum-shaped sake cup has a ridged design on the sides and a rimmed mouth. The glassware is formed by blowing into the glass attached to a blowpipe using the air-blowing and mold-blowing techniques. Not many pieces are successfully completed because the thickness of the mouth is made very thin and fragile. The cup can not only be used as a sake cup; however, it can also serve as a small bowl for the dining table. The simple milky-white sake cups enlighten and adds color to everyday dining setting, as well as pairs well with Japanese cuisines.
