This is a special order requested by Arts & Science for a tin teaspoon made by Kaikado in Kyoto, Japan. The teaspoon is just the right size to fit over the inner lid of the Kaikado tea canister. The plate is made in with a traditional Japanese method, and over the course of 30 to 40 years, the color gradually changes from silver to gray to black, into a mellow and deep, flavorful color. The back side on the teaspoon is engraved with our Arts & Science key logo.
【Kaikado】Established in 1875. Long-established tea caddy store in Kyoto with the oldest history in Japan. The shop continues to maintain the method that has been used since the first generation, using consistent handmade techniques. The beauty of the tea caddies, with their original austere beauty, increases with time. The precision with which the lid closes of its own accord, a characteristic of Kaikado tea caddies, can only be achieved by handwork.
Caution
*Tinplates are made using a process called "dobozuke," which produces a richly textured and aged appearance. Since tinplate liquid is fixed to the iron plate, if the product is used or stored in a humid or wet environment, the cut edges and other areas where the iron plate is exposed to air may rust.
*As the result of the manufacturing process of dobozuke, it is slightly dull finish rather than a perfect mirror surface overall. This is because the flow of plates creates a unique pattern when the iron plate is moved in the tin and when it is pulled up.
*If water gets on the tinplate, please wipe it off immediately with a soft and dry cloth. There is no need to rinse it with water at the beginning of use.
*This will change over time by touching it with your hand, but partial touching may cause unevenness. Please stroke the entire piece well with the palm of your hand in moderation.
*For daily care, please wipe the chazutsu lightly with a soft cotton cloth.
